CodeWorks 09 Speakers

Here's a list of the great speakers who will be your hosts at CodeWorks 09.

Alan Pinstein

Alan Pinstein started using PHP 3 in 1998 to power the eCommerce site for his Palm OS software company. Over the years he has developed or managed projects in C, C++, php, perl, objective-c, actionscript, .net, and java and has been exposed to many good (and bad) development practices. As a serial software entrepreneur that builds and maintains projects for years, he understands the value of quick time-to-market coupled with ease of maintenance, and has strived to develop robust engineering practices to bring these benefits to his PHP projects. To that end, he has released several open-source projects including the phocoa php framework, mp migrations manager, and config-magic for managing configuration files. Alan is currently co-founder of TourBuzz, LLC which develops the TourBuzz and Neybor real estate marketing services.

Terry Chay

If Zend puts your picture on a deck of cards, you've either arrived in the PHP world or are a terrorist. Terry Chay is a PHP Terrorist. He works on Wordpress, and, when he isn't doing that, he's trying to get as much power as you'll give him saying outrageous things on his blog—which is sort of also like working on Wordpress. In previous lives he architected the third largest social network in the U.S. in PHP, developed the largest revenue-generating product in PHP for Plaxo (later purchased by Comcast) as their first web engineer, programmed the communication layer between an internet-enabled home control device and the web browser, voice portals, PDAs and cell phones via SOAP and XMLRPC in PHP, and built the first travel search engine in… PHP (surprise)! He gives seminars in PHP development, which is really just a veiled excuse to play with Keynote.

Travis Swicegood

Travis Swicegood is a professional programmer; consultant with a focus on web applications, performance, and stability; and author of Pragmatic Version Control using Git. He's one of the developers on SimpleTest; the lead developer of PHPT and Argil; a TDD advocate—sometimes called a zealot—and lurker on many a PHP project mailing list when not learning other programming languages for fun, exploring his surroundings on bike, or tasting his latest kitchen and home-brew creations.

Vance Lucas

Vance Lucas created his first website at the age of 12 and has been focused on web development ever since. Driven to learn more about the web to make better and more interactive websites, Vance taught himself programming with PHP and MySQL back when PHP3 was new at the age of 13. Since PHP5's release in late 2004, Vance has been focused on and obsessed with object-oriented programming and the advantages it has over the traditional PHP procedural coding style. Vance created the phpDataMapper ORM library as a project to demonstrate the benefits of object-oriented code and the Standard PHP Library (SPL). Vance recently launched InvoiceMore, an invoicing web application as the flagship product of Actridge, LLC, a company that he founded in February 2009.
